Sunnyside Goldens Guardian Home Program

At Sunnyside Goldens, we offer a special opportunity for LOCAL families to raise one of our breeding dogs as a beloved family pet while contributing to the success of our breeding program. Our Guardian Home Program ensures our dogs receive the highest level of individualized care, love and attention they deserve in a home environment.

What is a Guardian Home?

  • A Guardian Home cares for one of our breeding dogs as a pet.

  • The dog lives with the Guardian family but remains the property of Sunnyside Goldens for a set period.

  • The dog will participate in our breeding program for a limited number of litters.

  • After the breeding program ends, ownership transfers to the Guardian.

  • Puppies produced by the dog belong to Sunnyside Goldens, not the Guardian.

Guardian Responsibilities

  • Daily Care: Provide a safe, loving home with good nutrition, exercise, and regular vet care.

  • Training: Basic obedience (e.g., sit, stay, come), crate training, and proper behavior at home.

  • Health Maintenance: Keep the dog healthy, flea-free, and up-to-date on vaccinations.

  • Heat Cycle Monitoring (for females): Observe and report when the dog goes into heat (females only).

  • Breeding Coordination: Deliver the dog to the Breeder for breeding or related activities as needed (with 24 hours’ notice).

  • Emergency Communication: Contact the Breeder immediately in case of illness or injury.

Benefits of the Guardian Home Program

  • You’ll receive a top-quality dog, hand-selected by us to remain in our program, at no cost to you.

  • Breeding Costs Covered: Sunnyside Goldens covers all breeding-related expenses, including health tests, vet care, etc.

  • Support: We provide guidance throughout the dog’s time with you.

  • Ownership Transfer: After the breeding program, the dog becomes your permanent family member.

How the Program Works

  • Dog Ownership: The Breeder retains ownership of the dog until the breeding program ends.

  • Breeding Participation: Once the dog has passed and cleared all health testing and clearances, it will enter into our program, after the last litter it will be spayed or neutered at Sunnyside Goldens’ expense.

  • Health Care: The Breeder covers breeding-related vet expenses; the Guardian covers all non-breeding-related vet care.

  • Transfer of Ownership: Once the dog’s breeding career is over, ownership will transfer to the Guardian, and the dog will be spayed or neutered.

Important Requirement

  • Location: The Guardian family must live within one hour of Salt Lake City, Utah, to ensure ease of coordination for breeding-related visits.
